SCHOOL SUPPLIES: We will be prepared to teach, You must be prepared to learn

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:

We will be prepared to teach. You must be prepared to learn.

Requirements: 7th thru 12th Grades.

  • 2” or 3”  three Ring binder (1st/3rd grades: 1")(4st thru 6th - 2"(inch)3ring binder
    • Why? Keeping all subjects in one place allows the student to have all subjects in one place.
    • Student only needs to keep track of one notebook.
    • You take home one subject you have them all.
    • The excuse, “I took the wrong one home,” is removed.
    • The binder allows you to ‘click’ out, and in paper. As ‘tear-outs’ are not acceptable..
      • Although the 3”(inch) is bulky, the 2” will fill-up quickly, and you’ll wish you had bought the 3”
      • Note* If cared for correctly a binder can last all year; however, it is not out of the ordinary for one to break and need replacing before the school year is up. If you can, buy two while the sales are on.

Math Class 11th & 12th Grades:
Calculator - Texas Instruments Ti83 Graphing Calculator. This an expenseive piece of school equipment (shop around)

Other grades will have geogematry and would benfit from a
good calculator; however, it is not a requirement.

  • Dividers for your binder – one for each subject (six)

  • Paper – (8 ½  x 11 College Rule)  or  8 x 10 ½  College Rule  (8 ½ x 11 College Rule is preferred)
    • ‘College Rule’ refers to the space in-between the lines
      • The Wrong paper is called ‘Wide’
      • 8 ½ x 11  or  8x10 ½ refers to the size of the paper.
    • Why that paper? Consistency, having 25 students with 25 different types of paper being handed in at homework time is sloppy & unacceptable!
    • Every good school across America has some type of format, and so does Al-Aqsa.
    • Homework, projects, reports, and tests done on the incorrect paper will not be accepted.

·        Pencils - #2

·        Pens – black or blue colored ink only!

These supplies are the foundation; you must have at least these basics to come to school.

We will be prepared to teach, you must be prepared to learn!

Your notebook, School books, Pencils/Pens are the same as your uniforms, coming to school without them is not acceptable.

Extras that make your school life easier but are not required.

  • Mini stapler – having your own is very convenient, ask any upper classman.
  • Click-in Ruler/Hole punch – talk about being organized, Stop the ‘fall-out’ of handouts.
  • Accessory bag – clicks into your binder and holds all this stuff along w/extra pencils and pens.
  • Extra erasers – that little tip on the end of the pencil for some students is just not enough!
  • Heavy-duty binder – see photo below. Flat on one side round on the other.
  • Pocket Dividers – Subject Dividers with a built in sleeve that allows the student to hold full 8 ½ x 11 sized paper in the divider.

This is very convenient for keeping that week’s handouts right up front where they belong.

  • Mini Pencil Sharpener – Yes, we have pencil sharpeners, but not on every class, in a pinch when your pencil breaks in math class you need it sharp now! Having your own sharpener makes you independent, it’s fast, it’s cool!

Now a little something about being ORGANIZED!

Don’t know where it is, you won’t find it. Can’t remember where you put it, it’s lost.

Ever see the guy or gal with the ‘Day Planer’ ya, ask them what they’re doing on

Tuesday next week and they will look it up and tell you. That’s organized.

A student saw her 4th semester grade sheet showing all grades for all assignments, all semesters, she told the teacher, pointing to a date at the beginning of the year, “that test grade is wrong, I got a 96% not a 76%!” She was asked to prove it as the teacher had no way to know if the student was right or wrong. She walked over to her binder flipped open a section called homework, spent about 40 seconds looking through that and found a homework from 5 months earlier. Oh ya, it was a 96 not a 76 and her grade was raised to reflect the correction. Now that’s organized!

Every one can be that organized if they chose to be. For the most part people are just lazy.

“Mom, do you know where my new sneakers are?” Why don’t you know where they are

There your sneakers?

Do not through your homework away, click it in the back of that subjects section.

Take notes, write things down.

1.      Have a daily page in the front of your binder to write down each subject’s homework or study.

2.      or Use a smaller note pad for keeping track of the daily chapters to be studied and/or homework

3.      Use a monthly eraser board at home to keep track of long term projects.

4.      Create a routine that works and stick to it.

a.       Come home, small break 15 -30 minutes, have a snack

b.      Get to work, get it done all of it! * if more then one hour take a 10 minute break every hour.

c.       Then go play.

d.      Understand how little time you actually have.

e.       In 24 hours a day, (you sleep 8-9hrs.) (School is 8hrs.), (your travel time?), (dinner 1hr.), (chores ?), what ever is left is all you have for homework and socializing five days a week. Most students only have 2 to 4 hours of life each day out of 24!

f.        Use your time wisely.

g.       Don’t get sucked into the “big lie”… “I’ll do it tomorrow.”

h.       Saturday morning“Yaa it’s the weekend, I’ll get started around noon, Oh, I’ll get started after lunch, wow, that lunch was good I need a rest. Awe I want to play it’s so nice out, I’ll do it tonight." (later that evening) “Oh, don’t worry Mom I’ll get everything done tomorrow.”

i.         Sunday – The big lie gets even bigger… by Sunday night your telling yourself…"I’ll get up early and do it.” Ya Allah – you know that’s not happening, then Monday morning comes and your tiring to get it done before class starts or at lunch, and before you know it you’re a ‘D’ student or worse.

j.        Learn Self-discipline – when your teacher corrects you, your teacher has disciplined you, when your Parents punish you, they have disciplined you. When you discipline your self it’s called Maturity. The abilty to know what your responsible for, and do it without being told! Maturity.

k.      There's an old saying, Plan to succeed or plan to fail. Being organized is the first step in Planing to succeed.

l.         If the care-takers in your home are not involved in your school work(your edjucation), get them involved, ask for help, ask to be reminded, lovingly motivation is what you will need to succeed.

m.     Independence is earned not demanded. Grades do not reflect intelligence they reflect how well you studied (prepared), everyone is intelligent. It’s just not very intelligent not to study! Right?!?!

May Allah be pleased with us and our efforts on His behalf
